Educational Qualification:-
• A candidate must be a graduate from a
recognized university or a deemed university.
• A candidate who has appeared for the
final year of bachelor's degree and awaiting result, along with candidates who
intend to appear at such qualifying examinations can also apply, provided that
they submit their proof of qualification along with the application for the
Mains exam.
• A candidate who possesses professional
and technical qualification recognised by Government equivalent to the
professional and technical degree can also apply.
• A candidate who has passed the final
professional M.B.B.S. or any other Medical Examination but has not completed
internship by the time of submission of application for the Civil Services
(Main) Examination can also apply.
Age Limit :-
A
candidate must be atleast 21 years of age and less than 31 years of age as on
01-08-2014 for the 2014 exam.
The
upper age limit is relaxed upto a maximum of :
Category
wise Age Relaxation (years) for SC / ST 5
years, OBC 3 years, Defense Services personnel 3 years, Domiciled in J&K
(during the period 01/01/1980 - 31/12/1989) 5 years
Selection Process:-
The Civil Services Exam is
a paper based test and consists of two successive stages:
(i) Preliminary Examination (Objective type)
comprising 2 exams : General Studies and CSAT
(ii) Civil Services Main Examination (Written
and Interview)
How to Apply:-
• Register on
http://www.upsconline.nic.in (Detailed instructions for filling up online
applications are available on the above mentioned website)
• The application charge for male
candidates is Rs. 100/- only. There is no application charge for female and SC
/ ST / Physically Handicapped candidates.
• All candidates, whether already in
government service, government owned industrial undertakings or other similar
organizations or in private employment should submit their applications
directly to the Commission.

General issues on environmental ecology,
bio-diversity and climate change – that do not require subject specialization.

Note
: The papers on Indian Languages and English (Paper A and Paper B) will be of Matriculation
or equivalent standard and will be of qualifying nature. The marks obtained in
these papers will not be counted for ranking.
Evaluation
of the papers, namely, 'Essay', 'General Studies' and Optional Subject of all
the candidates would be done simultaneously along with evaluation of their
qualifying papers on 'Indian Languages' and 'English' but the papers on
'Essay', General Studies and Optional Subject of only such candidates will be
taken cognizance of who attain such minimum standard as may be fixed by
Commission at their discretion for the qualifying papers on 'Indian Language'
and 'English'.
The
paper A on Indian Language will not, however, be compulsory for candidates
hailing from the States of runachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram,
Nagaland and Sikkim.
Marks
obtained by the candidates for the Paper I-VII only will be counted for merit
ranking. However, the Commission will have the discretion to fix qualifying
marks in any or all of these papers.

Note
:
(a) The question papers for the examination
will be of conventional (essay) type.
(b) Each paper will be of three hours
duration.
(c) Candidates will have the option to answer
all the question papers, except the
Qualifying Language papers
Paper-A
and Paper-B, in any of the languages included in the Eighth Schedule to the
Constitution of India or inEnglish.
(d) Candidates exercising the option to
answer Papers in any one of the languages mentioned above may, if they so
desire, give English version within brackets of only the description of the
technical terms, if any, in addition to the version in the language opted by
them. Candidates should, however, note that if they misuse the above rule, a
deduction will be made on this account from the total marks otherwise accruing
to them and in extreme cases; their script(s) will not be valued for being in
an unauthorized medium.
(e) The question papers (other than the
literature of language papers) will be set in Hindi and English only.
(f) The details of the syllabi are set out
in Part B of Section III.
(C) PERSONALITY TEST : 275 MARKS
